Update on Wet Look Sealer with No Gloss

Sealing pavers, concrete, and other types of hard surfaces can serve several purposes. Mainly, sealing can protect the surface from weather deterioration and secondly, it can enhance appearance. Surfaces can be sealed without altering the appearance, but some homeowners enjoy the enhanced look. It is personal preference but becoming an increasingly popular choice is a wet look sealer with no gloss.

A wet look sealer with no gloss appears just as the name suggests. The paver or concrete surface looks wet but yet there is no glossy shine to the surface. This look appeals to many people because it enhances the natural beauty of the substrate while adding weather protection.

Supreme Shield SB-600 is out most popular wet look sealer with no gloss. SUPREME SHIELD SB is a solvent-based penetrating sealer designed for stamped concrete, concrete pavers and other porous concrete surfaces. Application of SUPREME SHIELD SB will enhance the color and give the wet look without adding the gloss and plastic look associated with the traditional film forming sealers. Once treated, the surface repels water and oil to prevent staining.

Surebond SB-6000 is a common brand of wet look sealer with no gloss. The manufacturer claims it enhances the natural colors of the surface with a lavish wet look. It is also breathable and will not trap unwanted moisture so it can be applied immediately after the pavers have been installed. As expected from a quality sealer, it increases the structure’s durability while it shields against salt, acid, and other unwanted stains.

If you are looking for a wet look sealer with a satin finish then a sealer like SuperSeal Matte may be what you are looking for. This is a quality sealer that provides water repellency to brick, concrete, and stone surfaces. It leaves a wet look with no gloss but does have a satin finish. This look also appeals to many homeowners who do not want a high gloss finish.

In our opinion, both sealers are excellent choices. They lock out moisture, block wind, deter sun fading, slow joint sand erosion, and enhance the natural beauty of hard surface substrates. For protecting your investment and adding some curb appeal, a wet look sealer with no gloss can definitely be a great choice.

These are in reference only to the Supreme Shield SB-600. A search for data sheets left many questions unanswered on this product. Due to the number of questions being asked, perhaps a moderator reply by email may be the more appropriate response.
1). What type of sealer is it? Your site says it’s solvent based. But Is it an acrylic or a penetrating sealer?  Is it a polyurethane or an epoxy sealer?
2). Is it a silane or a silane/siloxane blend? If not, what materials are added for cold and hot weather regions?
3). What are the recommended methods to apply it?
4). Does it allow trapped moisture to escape from the concrete slab so that nobody will slip or fall in cold and wet weather?
5). Will the sealer make the surface texture feel slightly smoother after applied on semi-rough textured concrete ? Or will the surface texture be exactly the same as before the sealer was applied ?
6). How does the wet look appear when applied on dry white concrete ? When the concrete is wet now without any sealer, it appears gray. I’m not looking to have the concrete to become a darker shade than that, e.g, darker than how it looks now when it becomes wet.
7). How does the sealed concrete look AFTER it becomes wet? Will the concrete become darker after it becomes wet ? If so, by how much?
8). Does the concrete need to be etched before applying the sealer? If it does, which methods are suggested?
9). What’s the longest interval between maintenance applications? Or in other words, how often is it recommended to re-apply the sealer?
10). Does it create mottling or a marble look ?

1. It is a solvent-based penetrating acrylic sealer.2. No silane or silaxane in it.3. Sprayer or roller.4. Yes.5. No smoother. Same6. You cannot use a wet look sealer for white plain concrete. It will dry blotchy. What you want to do is not possible.
The rest is not needed as you cannot do what you want.

I have 5,000sq. ft. interlocking paving surface in So. California which must be cleaned and sealed. Can you please give me advise which is the best? My priorities are: long lasting(at least 3-5 years, low maintenance & wet looking bringing up colors. And, also what is the average price to do the above mentioned project?

Depends on the brand and sealer as to which application is best. We do not have samples on this website. Which sealer where you looking at?

What type of applicator do you recommend, and are small sample sizes available so one can see how it will look before making a decision as to which product to purchase..
Thanks,
Alan
